Welcome to the Central School's Language Arts Page!
Literacy is an integral part of academic success. The Central School is committed to providing the highest level of instruction and utilizing the most up-to-date resources to provide students with needed base from which they can grow and flourish as students. The literacy programs that are being utilized are Fundations (grades K-3), Just Words (grades 4-5), Fountas and Pinnell Classroom (grades K-6), and MyPerspectives (grades 7-8).
Keyport Central School has also adopted the Writer's Workshop Units of Study as its writing curriculum for grades K-8! This curriculum comes out of the Teachers College at Columbia University, and provides a research-based, structured method for developing and refining writing skills including high-level thinking skills such as synthesis, analysis, and critique. It provides some structured elements of student choice to foster engagement and "writerly" thinking, and harnesses the resulting enthusiasm to promote ever-increasing levels of independence, fluency, and sophistication.
